We are excited to announce the launch of our next-generation NoteDex Android app!

A Long-Awaited Upgrade

It’s been a long time coming. While we have continued to make improvements to the Android app as part of the web interface, many of you who used the previous version will remember that it was primarily the web app wrapped in an application. This approach allowed us to push updates quickly to Android users, but we recognized that the overall experience could be better.

Over the last six months, we have been diligently working on the first release of the new native Android app. We wanted to ensure that this release would be a valuable upgrade for our Android users. Here are some key considerations that guided our development for our next-generation Index Card Memory App:

Existing Compatibility

We made sure that the old app remains available for users who may need to revert to it during the transition. This is crucial, as it will take time to build more features into the new Android app. To access the old version of the app, just click this icon:

Improved Usability

We aimed to create a quick, easy, and intuitive experience. This includes the ability to take quick notes seamlessly. Unlike the previous app, which mirrored the desktop experience, the new app is designed specifically for mobile use.

Innovative Features

We are excited to introduce new functionalities focused on quick capture and organization of notes. We want to make sure NoteDex is easy to use so you can keep in the flow and capture all the thoughts and ideas in your mind.

Next-Generation Features

We are incorporating AI technologies into the app, which will enhance productivity and introduce new capabilities.

Exploring the New Android App

Now, let’s take a tour of the new Android app and highlight what’s new and how to use it:

When you open the app, you will notice that it launches quickly because data is stored locally. Initially, you can sync a few cards—specifically, the first 20 cards from your database—allowing you to view your most recently created notes. It will open into a 2D grid format showing Recent Cards in the 'All Workspaces' dropdown.

Once you open a card, it will appear in an innovative 3D timeline view, reminiscent of a Rolodex of cards. This design pays homage to the tactile experience of using real index cards, a concept we have long wanted to bring to life. For users on mobile devices, we have included a timeline on the bottom right side, showing all the different cards in your Stack. What’s truly exciting is the thumb scroller feature; you can scroll through the timeline with your thumb, and it provides haptic feedback as you navigate through the cards. This is one of the first instances where we are merging the tangible feel of physical index cards with digital functionality. This 3D view is currently available only on Android—partly as an experiment to see if you like using it!

Offline Access

We also understand that many of you create cards for upcoming speeches, presentations, or meetings. After syncing, you will have access to all your cards on your phone, even when offline. While you cannot edit them offline, you can view them, which is a significant improvement over the previous Android app.

Quick Note Functionality

Another new feature is the Quick Note functionality. Previously, it took several clicks to create a note, but now you can immediately create a Quick Note upon launching the app. A window will pop up, allowing you to start typing or even record audio notes.

Additionally, when you record audio or attach a file, NoteDex will analyze it and generate a summary. For example, if you have a lengthy PDF document, you can add it to NoteDex, and within a few seconds, you will receive an automatically generated summary. Our enterprise-grade servers can handle complex AI tasks, and we use the most advanced technologies to deliver you these solutions—hiding all the complexity to deliver you simplicity.

The Quick Note feature is particularly useful if you are using other Android devices like a Boox e-reader, for example, that supports Android. You can use the e-reader to take handwritten notes and then use the Android Share-to-NoteDex feature to share that note as a PDF to NoteDex to keep your notes organized. Likewise, if you are browsing in Chrome or Edge, or watching a YouTube video, you can share links directly to NoteDex. If enabled, the AI will summarize the webpage or video content for you, further enhancing your note-taking experience. You can turn the AI features On/Off at your discretion. This makes it also really easy when you are scrolling Instagram or YouTube on your phone—using the Share-To-NoteDex feature, you'll quickly save the link with just a few clicks, and NoteDex will generate a short summary automatically and add that to the body of the note so when you get back to NoteDex, the note makes more sense to you.

Adding Notes Made Easy

To make it even easier to add notes, we have included a Widget for the first time. You can place it on your home screen, allowing you to add a note directly with just a tap. (Just hold the app icon to get a menu and then select Widget).

Summary of Features

In summary, the new Android app boasts improved offline features and enhanced usability, making it quicker to capture notes. The innovative 3D view allows for easy navigation through your cards, and the AI features enable you to record audio, attach files, and summarize documents. This is just the beginning; we have a lot more planned for future updates.

For those who may still need to use features not yet available in the new app, there is always a button on the home screen that takes you back to the original app.

We appreciate your support and are committed to developing an app that meets your needs as professionals managing projects and information. As we continue to evolve, we look forward to incorporating more innovations to make NoteDex an index card memory system you can rely on and help you get things done every day.

Oh, and all these new features, including the AI functions, are all added as part of your existing lifetime plan—no extra charge. NoteDex just became even more valuable to you!

Thank you for being a part of this journey, and please let us know what you think of our new app!
